How to Prompt AI to Bring an Image to Life
When you’re trying to get AI to generate the exact image you have in mind, the key is how you describe it. This is called a prompt — and the better you prompt, the better the result.
⸻
1. Start With the Vision — But Break It Down
Instead of saying:
“Give me a dope haircut with numbers in it.”
Say:
“A close-up of a male with a green buzz cut. The back of his head shows a ‘741’ shaved design above an angel tattoo. The numbers are bold, shadowed, and faded into the hair.”
That’s a full visual sentence, not just a vibe.
⸻
2. Use the 5-Part Prompt Formula:
[Subject] + [Action] + [Detail] + [Style/Vibe] + [Lighting/Angle]
Example:
“The back of a man’s head with a green low buzz cut, featuring the numbers ‘741’ shaved in thick font, placed above a detailed angel tattoo. The design is shadowed into the hair with a natural blend, soft background, and realistic lighting.”
⸻
3. Be Specific About These Key Elements:
Element What to Say
Subject “A Black man with a low fade” / “Profile of a young female with braids”
Action “Shaved numbers” / “Etched lines” / “Braids pulled into a bun”
Details “‘741’ in bold font above an angel” / “Design faded into the scalp with curves”
Style/Vibe “Spiritual, realistic, modern” / “Old school barber blend with futuristic lines”
Lighting/Angle “Side view with soft light” / “Top-down with shadows for depth”
⸻
4. Use Style Words (They Matter)
Words like:
• Shadowed / Blended / Faded = For natural-looking designs
• Crisp / Bold / Sharp = For strong outlines and punchy visuals
• Realistic / Photographic / Close-up = To avoid cartoonish results
⸻
5. Reference Real Features
Use visual anchors that are already in your image:
• “Above an angel tattoo”
• “Near the crown of the head”
• “With a green hair base and a black cape”
This helps AI map the design accurately to the right place.
⸻
6. Give Feedback & Repeat
If the AI didn’t get it right the first time:
• Change the prompt slightly.
• Add words like “not cartoon” or “not flat” if it looks fake.
• Be more direct with what you don’t want too (e.g. “Do not make the numbers floating or glowing”).
⸻
Summary:
Prompting AI is like guiding a designer who can’t see your vision — until you say it clearly.
The more visual, detailed, and grounded your prompt, the better your results.
AI is powerful — but you are the artist. Your words are your tools.
